VOLCANIC SOIL
Costa Nera identifies the volcanic slope of the Valle d’Agno, on the right-hand side of the valley.
The soils, rich in basalt and tuff, originated from the ancient Monte Faldo volcano, which created the most extensive volcanic area in the Triveneto. These lands are very rich in elements that give the wines their characteristic freshness and minerality.
CALCAREOUS SOIL
Costa Bianca identifies the left slope of the Valle d’Agno.
The calcareous soils consist of marine calcarenite and marl, which are very rich in fossils.
The geological origin of these soils, known as Priabonian, is named after the small town of Priabona located at the center of this area.
These rocky soils are very rich in clay, a precious element for the growing of vines on these hills.

For an environmentally-aware agriculture in a intact territory with great biodiversity
The big presence of woodland and meadows,of insect that act as predators and pollinators, and of indigenous microorganisms that live in symbiosis with the vines constitute highly positive elements in terms of the quality of life of the vineyard itself. This invariably translates itself into quality in the wine.
We feel guardian of the Agno Valley and we adopt agricultural methods that are sustainable and environment-friendly, in order to express to the best of our terroir which is our greatest treasure.

The environment must be looked after in its entirety, by respecting the flora and fauna; with the aim of preserving the natural habitat, not more than 80% of the surface area can be used for any kind of specialized farming, and at least 20% is kept aside for meadows and woods.
In order to maintain the specific characteristics of the land that go towards making every wine unique, we don’t use synthetic fertilisers, herbicides or insecticides of any kind; these seriously harm the microflora and ground water and are responsible for indiscriminately eliminating useful as well as harmful insects.
Mechanical operations aim to control the growth of grass and promote deep root growth in order to enhance minerality and expressiveness in wines as well as to improve the vitality and hardiness of the plants. We don’t use irrigation for the same reason.
